Review: We just visited Le Fou Frog to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary. It was the second time we have dined there since moving to Kansas City in 2013, and both dining experiences have been absolutely scrumptious!
While a bit on the pricey side, this is an excellent destination for fine French dining and seemingly at random singing performances by the staff. While we did not get to experience the singing this second time (we arrived at opening time and the restaurant wasn't full - go later for the full experience), we were too absorbed in the culinary masterpieces to care much.
The escargot and foix gras appetizers were both exceptional. So was the salade de betteraves et roquette that I ordered. Quartered beets dressed in lemon vinaigrette paired with orange segments, candied pecans, and spicy arugula tossed with balsamic vinaigrette.

My husband ordered the vichyssoise, a chilled potato and leek soup with cream and a drizzle of chive oil on top. He isn't frowning, although it might look like it in this picture. He was reveling in the smooth texture. It was an absolute delight and we didn't waste a drop of it.

For our dinner entrees, my husband ordered the Sweetbreads off of the specialty menu and I ordered the Magret de Canard - a pan seared Mulard Duck encrusted in cracked black pepper, with a raspberry, duck reduction sauce, served with wild rice and sautéed vegetables.
It was excellent, but the Sweetbread over mashed potatoes with this amazing rich sauce that my husband had ordered? Sooo good!
To finish off the meal we ordered the Creme Brulee and Mousse au Chocolat. We only managed a few bites before asking to have it all boxed up so we could hit the fridge for a midnight snack.
We enjoyed this meal so much and I think you will as well. It is the perfect destination. Prepare yourself for a culinary masterpiece!
