ABOUT THE COTTAGES

Your Journey, Your Home

In early 2013, Dave and Christine purchased an 1899 Victorian in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Kansas City. A love of old architecture and plain old good luck landed them Cottage West, just 200 feet to the west of their home in July 2014. Abandoned and unloved for over a decade (unless you counted the resident raccoons), it took five years of savings and hard work to transform the abandoned bungalow into a place filled with color and comfort for guests to stay in and Cottage West opened for business as a short-term rental in October 2019.

Another future project is Cottage East, a house on the east side of their properties. Built in 1895, Christine and Dave purchased it in July 2017. Their first priority was removing the crumbling brick facade, adding siding, new windows and replacing the roof. Renovations are moving slow, but Christine and Dave hope to open Cottage East as a long-term rental in 2025.

Christine is an author of fourteen books (learn more by visiting her author website) and Dave works in IT. They are parents of three children - one now a freshman in college, a 2nd grader and a pre-schooler. Together they are dedicated to improving their community, one house at a time. Whether you are looking to stay one night, or spend a week or more exploring the Kansas City area, The Cottages are a great stop along the way. You will find the property clean, welcoming, and comfortable. Your hosts have done their best to anticipate your every need!

All guests are welcome to walk through the large, shared yard. Feel free to unleash your inner child (or your actual child) on the trampoline. You will find extensive landscaping and pathways edged with strawberries, herbs, and perennials. Help yourself to the strawberries, sniff and taste the herbs. Christine and Dave are adding 500 additional new strawberry plants each year for their guests and neighbors to enjoy. The garden is 100% pesticide free and organic.
